With a rich history dating back to the 16th century, the glorious Macdonald Houstoun House is something rather special. Close to the iconic city of Edinburgh, it’s located in a peaceful spot amid 22 acres of picturesque woodland. When your mind and body are in the mood to get away from it all, this heavenly retreat fits the bill perfectly.
Superb retail therapy is to be found in Edinburgh’s famous streets, and of course there’s a breath-taking castle at the top of the Royal Mile that’s just waiting to be explored. You can spend some quality time at Edinburgh Zoo, gaze at the exhibits in the National Museum of Scotland and head to the top of Arthur’s Seat for some spectacular views of this wondrous city.

Had a wonderful time having two spa treatments. The therapist was very good. The pool, steam room and sauna are pleasant. Shower facilities are poor with a lack of products and dreadful privacy. The worst thing though is the footwear. The slippers are extremely slippy on the wet floor and border on being dangerous. As a safety precaution, I would encourage people to take their own footwear. Afternoon tea was ok but service was rather lethargic. Thank goodness the spa treatments made the day as I had spent a considerable amount of money.

Spa treatments were lovely. The pool was a good temperature, and we took advantage of the steam room and sauna. We were the only people there for afternoon tea and enjoyed our experience. All the staff were friendly and professional. Somewhere we would happily revisit.

We absolutely loved our stay at Houstoun House! Staff are lovely and friendly, food was great including breakfast. Spa treatments were so relaxing and used lovely products (the facial in particular). Hotel grounds are gorgeous and our room was comfortable and dark in the mornings. We will definitely be back!

Lovely day with a friend. Staff were very welcoming and helpful and really enjoyed the treatments. Only downside was the changing room a bit small and most of the lockers seemed to be broken. Would go back though and hope to return soon.

We had a very relaxing weekend at Macdonald Houstoun House. There were parts of the hotel that looked like they needed a bit of TLC and the swimming pool could be pool at a gym. However, our massages were amazing, we still really enjoyed reading by the pool and the food was great. We would definitely book again.
