About

More than just an indulgent retreat, the uber-cool Lifehouse Spa & Hotel is a haven of health and wellness. With a pared-back, Scandi style (think clean, minimalist lines and glass-walled corridors) this hyper-modern palace of pampering sits in 12 acres of English-Heritage-listed gardens in scenic Essex. As soon as you arrive here, you’ll realise that something very special is about to unfold.

There’s so much to enjoy in the local area, including days out at the rightly popular Colchester Zoo. The traditional seaside resorts of Clacton-on-Sea and Frinton-on-Sea are both nearby, and lovely walks along the beach at Walton-on-the-Naze are always a delight. For history lovers, the Roman heritage in Colchester is always worth exploring.

There are 89 gorgeous bedrooms at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel, so overnight stays are a major temptation. The tranquil spa offers 35 fabulous treatment rooms as well as a top of the range gym for the fitness fans. And there’s an elegant restaurant waiting to wow you when you feel the need for sustenance.

The Spa & Wellness at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel

You may be a seasoned spa-goer, but chances are you’ll never have been in a place so devoted to the art of health and relaxation as Lifehouse Spa. More than just pampering, Lifehouse is a haven of wellness that will leave you totally transformed, both body and soul.

Pad up the sleek, spiral staircase to discover the Hidden Sanctuary. Like a spa within a spa, this unique experience lets you spend some time in your own private pool where warm water, waterfalls and soft music comforts the body and mind. Put life on pause as you reconnect with a special someone over a soothing herbal tea, served while you sit back and chill.

Then it’s time to head back to the main attraction - the spa itself. Flit between the good-sized warm water pool, bubbling hot hydrotherapy pool, salt inhalation room, steam room, sauna and experience showers. But will you try the shriek-inducing ice-cold plunge pool?

The rituals at Lifehouse leave you feeling rested and re-energised. From soothing facials to sound healing, body wraps to reflexology, they’ll look after you from head to toe, inside and out. In-house wellness specialists can even give your health a holistic MOT, for a glow that lasts long after you’ve headed home.

Treatment over and the warm and welcoming Relaxation Lounge beckons, its comfortable loungers and soft, cosy blankets providing the perfect place to hide away after your pampering.

The Gym & Fitness at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel

Here for a total health and body overhaul? We hear you. Luckily, reaching your fitness goals feels easy at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel.

Tear yourself away from the spa and you’ll find the gym is free to use for each guest, with state-of-the-art equipment, cardio and strength machines and an additional weights area. Not sure what you’re doing? On-site qualified gym instructors are on-hand for one-off lessons that make sure you’re maximising every minute of your time.

But where Lifehouse really excels is in its group fitness offerings. A great start to any healthy new lifestyle, there are over 60 classes to choose from on the ever-changing activity calendar, many led by Lifehouse’s in-house physio so you know you’re in good hands.

You can sweat your way through step circuits, Life Cycle and aquafit, stretch out in pilates and yoga or sink into a blissful meditation. Classes can be booked at the Spa Reception for a small extra charge.

Prefer to jog, stroll or power-walk? Lifehouse is set within 12-acres of English-Heritage listed Gardens. A riot of colour come spring and autumn, the wider grounds include various walking and running routes that take you around some stunning lakes. You can even book complimentary garden tours to point out rare plants and tell you a little about the gardens’ history - Sir Winston Churchill was once a visitor here.

Restaurants & Food at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel

You’ve nurtured your body with pampering treatments. Now it’s time to nibble on something just as indulgent, and Lifehouse doesn’t disappoint.

The dress code at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel is ‘robed and relaxed’, meaning you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea in the restaurant cocooned in soft, white fluffiness.

The breakfast buffet is groaning with pastries, muffins, yoghurts, fresh and poached fruits, cereals, cooked options and eggs to order. Lunch is light and delicious (think open sandwiches and soups), and crafted using local ingredients.

For dinner, the dress code is smart-casual, with no robes allowed in the restaurant or bar after 6pm. But it’s well-worth getting dressed up for. With a cool, pared-back style and moody lighting, Italian executive chef Ugo Simonelli really put Lifehouse Restaurant on the culinary map. Dining is Mediterranean-inspired and not to be missed, and neither too is the bar - a chilled spot to sip on some pre-dinner cocktails.

Great spa day. Visited with my daughter and granddaughter. Enjoyed our treatments. Always very professional and lovely surroundings. Pool and spa area is lovely. Plenty of loungers and towels. Lunch at the restaurant was good. Not a big menu but something for everyone and food was delicious. Looking forward to our next visit.

Easily booked with SpaSeekers. Therapists do consistently great treatments. Pool is not stunning and spa pool not enormous but food and bar excellent. Relaxation room great (apart from people who just don't seem to understand that you don't need to be using your phone 100% of the time).

Room was lovely, beautiful view over grounds. Dinner was enjoyable, breakfast is a buffet but was very busy with 10 min queue for coffee machine. The spa treatments I had were enjoyable and the spa itself very good but very busy with most loungers taken.

We enjoyed a lovely spa day. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea was great. Our treatments were all very relaxing. I was a little disappointed that after having a pedicure there wasn't the right nail polish to have a French manicure. This happened the last time I came.
